The Netherlands and Finland celebrate twenty-five years of business relationships

Exchanging knowledge contributes to opportunities for innovation and a distinctive character

Amsterdam, 5 October 2012 – On 5 October 2012 in Hotel Arena in Amsterdam, Dutch and Finnish companies will be celebrating twenty-five years of successful collaboration. Senior figures from well-known companies such as KONE and Nokia, as well as the Finnish ambassador, will speak at the Creating Value seminar about close collaboration and will also be looking at the future. The seminar is organised by the Finnish Dutch Trade Guild (FDTG).

The Dutch and Finnish business worlds work closely together, most notably in the fields of high tech, healthcare, design and modern biotechnology. Only six countries stand above the Netherlands in the list of who the Finns do the most business with. Patrice van der Heiden, chairman of the FDTG: ‘Finland and the Netherlands have comparable cultures. We communicate in the same way and have similar values and standards. We are also well matched where our economies are concerned, which means that the Finnish and Dutch business worlds can learn a lot from each other. The Dutch can provide the Finns with knowledge about marketing, while the Scandinavians are leaders in the fields of innovation and education.’

Wim Koster, managing director of KONE: the success of our products and services in the Dutch market is a prime example of Dutch-Finnish co-operation.

Creating Value seminar

Creating new business models will be a central theme of the seminar. Customer perception will be discussed, based on a number of practical examples. This is a major topic, because end users now determine the success of a business to a much greater extent than they used to. A close look has to be taken at the way the business world operates. Knowledge of how companies can place customer perception at the core of their business model will be exchanged during the seminar. Representatives from KONE, Nokia, the University of Lapland, DesignThinkers and VanBerlo Communications will address the participants during the seminar.

Finnish Dutch Trade Guild

The Finnish Dutch Trade Guild was set up in 1957 on the initiative of the Finnish Embassy, in collaboration with the business world. It is an independent non-profit network organisation whose purpose is to promote and increase collaboration between Finland and the Netherlands. A large number of prominent guest speakers have appeared at the various FDTG events over the years, including Jorma Ollila, the former CEO of Nokia, and Sauli Niinistö, the current President of Finland. The Guild has more than 75 member companies.
